Ingredients:
- 500 gm minced lamb/ goat meat
- 3 tsp olive oil
- 2 medium sized chopped onion
- 2 chopped garlic
- 1 spoon thyme
- 1 spoon Rosemary
- 1 spoon oregano
- 1 spoon black pepper
- 2 chopped carrot
- 8-10 medium sized potatoes
- 3 tsp butter
- Salt to taste.
- 2 spoon papaya paste
Shepherd's pie consists of a bottom layers of minced lamb/goat meat & a top layer of mashed potatoes.
Recipe:
Mashed potato topping:
- Peel & cut your potatoes.
- Boil them in a pressure cooker.
- Drain the potatoes & keep them in a large bowl.
- Mash the potatoes using a masher until they are smooth & fluffy.
- Add salt, butter & black pepper to the mashed potatoes, mix well & keep aside.
Minced lamb/goat meat filling:
- In a large kadai, add olive oil & fry the minced meat till the water disappears & keep aside.
- In the same kadai, saute the chopped onions till they become soft.
- Add chopped garlic & saute for 2 minutes.
- Add chopped carrot & fry for 2-3 minutes.
- Add cooked minced meat, papaya paste, herbs, salt & pepper.
- Keep stirring for few minutes.
- Cover & cook on low flame till the meat is done.
- Transfer the meat to your baking dish & spread it uniformly.
- Add mashed potatoes on the top of the minced meat layer.
- Spread carefully in to an even layer using a spatula.
- Preheat the oven at 200-220 degree Celsius & bake it for half an hour till the top potato layer is brown.
Shepherd's pie is ready to eat.
